SYNTAX Digital designs a site commemorating the life and work of Khalid Shoman

Amman, Tuesday, January 22, 2002

SYNTAX Digital, the multidisciplinary strategic design and digital solutions company, has today announced that it has completed work on a website that chronicles the life and work of the late Khalid Shoman.

The bilingual (Arablic/English) site (www.khalid-shoman.org). entitled "Khalid Shoman: A Life of Dedication" commemorates the life Khalid Shoman and his role and mission in the Arab Bank and the Abdul Hameed Shoman Foundation. Rich in information and images, the site also presents excerpts from Shoman's messages in the Arab Bank's annual reports throughout the years and press articles published after he passed away on the 30th of June 2001.

The site is published by the close family of Khalid Shoman who commissioned SYNTAX with the project. In a press release about the site, the family said that "Khalid Shoman was a modest man who shied away from publicity. Yet the deep feelings of loss and respect expressed by many after his passing, prompted his close family; his wife, son and daughter, to publish this site as a remembrance for those who knew him an d loved him and for those who would like to know more about his life and work."

The site's design efforts were led by Salua Qidan, SYNTAX's founding partner responsible for the company's "dot.org" practice. "Working on this site was a challenging creative experience for us. Our design attempts to strike a balance between documentation and story telling, text and photographs, remembrance and celebration. We are grateful for having been part of this effort," Qidan said.

Both the choice of the web as a publishing medium and the subject matter of the site are very interesting aspects of this project. "At a time where there is a lot of international interest in the Arab world, we think that using the web as a publishing medium is an appropriate decision," said Ahmad Humeid, CEO of SYNTAX Digital. "As the web is becoming a mainstream information and communication medium, we are witnessing the emergence of new forms of publishing that are being used by families and individuals to spread their message and strengthen their communities. This site in remembrance of Khalid Shoman is a pioneering project in that respect," Humeid added.
